Let's plan a communication!

Welcome to the Communications Navigator!

If you're here, chances are you have something to say to your team, our whole team, or a subset of colleagues at Cascadia. Internal Communications is working hard to make it easy to deliver clear and consistent information to our team members no matter where they are.

This tool, the Communications Navigator, is intended to provide tailored guidance to you in the early stages of planning your communication, recommending appropriate channels, review requirements, timing considerations, and follow-up steps based on your audience, objectives, and the sensitivity and urgency of your subject matter.

The tool links to additional resources, such as style guidelines, how-to instructions, templates, and a communications calendar to support you in taking the recommended next steps.

The Internal Communications team (Cindy and Julie S) are also available to answer questions or provide troubleshooting support. Reach out via email or Teams.

How to use this tool

Answer the below 6-8 questions about what you're communicating, who needs to hear it, and when. Once finished, click "Create my communications plan" to receive a tailored set of recommendations for planning, developing, and distributing your communication to staff.

Who needs to receive it?

Think about who needs this information—not necessarily everyone who might find it interesting.

What do you want people to know/believe/do as a result of the communication?

Choose the most important outcome, even if your message also includes other requests.

Does the communication involve a significant organizational decision, change, or sensitive matter?

Routine updates and reminders generally don't require additional review. If your message introduces a significant change or could affect staff trust, select the relevant option. For example, announcing a new companywide policy may require review; reminding staff about an existing policy generally does not.

How long should the information remain available?

Information people will need to find again may belong in SharePoint, even if you announce it through email or Teams.
